Jan 03, 2016 Update. As one who nearly always chooses the 3D option for movies, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is definitely worth watching in 3D. It does not distract you from the overall experience, and my mother (who watched a 3D movie for the first time) enjoyed the 3D special effects too. In some ways, you could even argue that since Star Wars is such an old-fashioned franchise, it's almost a disservice to watch the movie in 3D, and fans should even seek out screenings on 70mm. Rey continues her epic journey with Finn, Poe and Luke Skywalker in the next chapter of the saga.
In Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the Skywalker saga continues as the heroes of The Force Awakens join the galactic legends in an epic adventure that unlocks age-old mysteries of the Force and shocking revelations of the past. The IMAX release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX's customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.
In the 40 years since the original Star Wars debuted, projection technology has drastically changed, allowing for the highest quality picture and sound, in addition to the incorporation of 3D elements. According to for The Last Jedi, the upcoming sequel will be screened in a traditional 35mm format in addition to an IMAX format that forgoes the 3D feature.Tickets are not yet on sale for The Last Jedi, but Fandango allows you to select seeing the film in 35mm, Digital 3D, IMAX and IMAX 3D. Most theaters screen the film in a digital format comparable to a 35mm presentation, but without the use of actual film.
No announcement has come out regarding the official date tickets for the film will go on sale, but many different clues point towards the tickets being made available on October 9.One clue came from Mark Hamill who responded to a fan asking him about when we could see a new trailer, with the actor casually saying the fan should tune in to Monday Night Football on October 9 for 'no reason in particular.' The actor then deleted the tweet and tried to say he was joking about the trailer and steer the conversation back towards football.
