I've seen this in a few places.so this seems quite 'available'.in otherwords, no big secret. However, I'm curious. Other than updating my version of MapSource on mylocal PC, what would be the importance of having the latest version? The reason I ask is because I own a Garmin i3 running an older version ofCity Navigator. The only way to update what is loaded into my StreetPilot would be topurchase the upgrade, with key.that's the only way I understand I canupdate the mapping software on my i3, where I need it most. When travelingand looking for a specific location.Am I misunderstaning other uses for MapSource???Thank you.-Thanks & B'rgds,Uncle VinnieDale Atkin25.07.08 17:24. However, I'm curious. Other than updating my version of MapSource on my local PC, what would be the importance of having the latest version?Having a working Mapsource install without commercial maps can be useful ifyou're looking at custom mapping options. (otherwise you need to go out andbuy Trip and Waypoint Manager to use custom maps).I've actually run a similar question by Garmin as far as is it a violationof the license agreement to use the downloaded mapsource without a previouslicense. Basically they don't care (at least so said the guy I spoke to).The error message is just there to stop people thinking they can havemapsource with maps for free off the website.DaleUncle Vinnie28.07.08 06:18.
Use City Navigator Europe NT with MapSource 6.13.7When you install City Navigator Europe NT (or a n端Maps Lifetime update for this map), MapSource 6.15.x will be installed too. 6.15.x is much slower than 6.13.7; on an older PC it might even be unworkable (not to mention the ugly distortion of the maps). The problem is that MapSource 6.13.7 cannot use these maps, because the files have a new format (actually the same as RoadTrip for Mac OS X uses). Some members of the German forum Naviboard.de found a solution to convert the new files to the format that MapSource 6.13.7 uses. Their solution is not so easy to use, so I created the program MapReverseConverter to make te conversion process easier (the actual conversion is done by the program GMaptool, the same as the Naviboard solution).MapReverseConverter is an universal program, not only for City Navigator Europe NT, but for any map in the new format. After the conversion process you will have two sets of maps on your PC, the original and the converted one. If you want, you can remove the original files, preferrably through the Control Panel of Windows. Newer versions of MapSource still work with the converted maps, so upgrading MapSource is always possible. When you don't have MapSource 6.13.7 (anymore), you can download it here:With every update of n端Maps Lifetime you will need to run MapReverseConverter again. Why is it called 'MapReverseConverter'?RoadTrip for Mac OS X cannot use maps in the old format.
For getting these maps to work with RoadTrip you need to use Garmin's program 'MapConverter', which converts map files to the new format. My program does the reverse, hence the name. Is reverting back to the old 6.13.7 simply a matter of running the install of the older version over the newer one?My computer is ancient but works OK for my needs. I'm currently running Mapsource 6.13.7. I don't think my PC will run the newer versions well. I have Roads & Rec, the old Topo east and west, plus City Select v5 and City Select v7 maps installed.
The City Select v7 is unlocked for my GPS V and my 60Cx.Just bought a Nuvi 500 which has City Nav NT 2010.10 on it. Click to expand.Just rename the 6.15.x exe. File to 'Mapsourcea' or some such and run the 6.13.7 exe. File you've downloaded, twice. The second run does a registry clean. Then rename this install MapSource13 and create a shortcut for it.
Now go back and rename the 6.15.x exe. Back to Mapsource.
This way, when you install map updates, the newer version gets updated and the 6.13.7 install is left alone. Both will co-exist quite well on the same computer and in fact I've run both versions at the same time with no issues. If you want to be done with 6.15 just run the 6.13.7 install twice. The drawback to this is that any upgrades will overwrite the Mapsource install automatically. Or sumsuch.Install 6.13.7.Rename the 6.13.7 exe. File Mapsource13.exe and create a shortcut to it with a unique name. Now rename the original 6.15.9 Mapsource exe. Back to 'Mapsource'.If you use file associations, change the.gbd extension to open with the Mapsource13 program. You only have to go through this process once. What it does is it gives the CN updates a file to overwrite with the newer MapSource that doesn't nuke the 6.13.7 install every time. Just use the 6.13.7 shortcut you've created to launch Mapsource 6.13.7, and ignore (or delete) the shortcut to 'Mapsource'. So far, having both on my windows install hasn't been a problem at all.

When I go to control panel/add/remove programs I get one entry for City Navigator North America NT 2010.40The original install went to C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataGARMINMapsThe converted maps went to C:Garmin.
